HUNT TACK & ATTIRE

OUR WELCOME POLICY

Please do not be intimidated by the traditional dress code! We would much rather have you out riding with us regardless of your attire than have you stay home. If you are joining us as a guest, we simply ask that you:

  • Wear darker colors: Red (scarlet) coats are reserved for our staff and members who are managing the hounds and leading the flights.

  • Prioritize Safety: We encourage all riders to wear helmets. Helmets are required if you will be jumping.

  • Ride your way: We do not require English tack. We encourage you to use whatever equipment makes you and your horse feel safe and comfortable.

RATCATCHER ATTIRE

Our season begins in late August and our dress adapts to the weather. During late August to early September we wear collared polo shirts or long-sleeve summer riding tops. Most members pair these with traditional breeches and tall boots (black or brown).

As the weather cools, riders typically transition to tweed jackets. This is a great time to wear a necktie or a stock tie, which come in many colors and patterns.

FORMAL ATTIRE

At Opening Hunt and during formal hunts, members and staff dress in their finest traditional wear.

Staff & Flight Leaders wear scarlet coats, yellow vests, white stock ties, white breeches, and tall black boots with or without brown tops.

Members wear black "Melton" coats, yellow vests, white stock ties, tan breeches, and tall black boots.
